Workshop on “Application of steel structure for hydraulic works and disaster management”

(TLU) – On 23rd April, Thuyloi University in collaboration with Nippon Steel Corporation, Japan organized an international online workshop on "Application of steel structure for hydraulic works and disaster management”

In recent years, steel structures are increasingly used in civil and industrial construction. In the trend of shifting factories out of China to Southeast Asian countries, such as Vietnam, numbers of industrial factories being built is creasing rapidly in our country. With these industrial projects, steel structures are absolutely used because of ability to exceed large spans due to high strength of steel structure. Besides, super-high-rise buildings such as Landmark 81, Vietinbank tower ... use steel structure combined with concrete. In addition, with the advantages of fast construction, more and more apartments are using steel structures. It can be said that with its advantages, steel structure plays a very important and irreplaceable role in civil and industrial construction.

The workshop was attended by Mr. Tanaka Hiroyuki, Director of Construction Department, Nippon Steel Corporation; Mr. Nakano Hiromasa, Head of Representative Hanoi Office of Nippon Steel Vietnam Company. From the TLU, there were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Kim - Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University Council; Prof. Dr. Trinh Minh Thu - President; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet - Vice President; and representatives of units in the TLU, scientists and representatives of ministries, localities, institutes, universities, international and Vietnamese technological research organizations.

Prof. Dr. Trinh Minh Thu was pleased to cooperate with Nippon Steel Viet Nam - a steelmaker corporation with more than 70 years of history of developing to become the world-leading steel manufacturer and supplier. The product quality of Nippon Steel has been shown on many projects in Vietnam. However, in the field of hydraulic works, it has just applied the hat-type steel sheet piles to the dam project in the Tra Khuc downstream in June 2020.

With the aim of introducing new technologies in steel materials as well as the importance of steel structure application for civil construction, hydraulic works and natural disaster management, the workshop "Application of steel structures for hydraulic works and disaster management" is expected to open up strategic cooperation between the two sides in the near future. "The steel products of Nippon Steel Vietnam will become a prestigious brand in the field of water sector and hydropower" – Prof. Thu said.

Prof. Dr Trinh Minh Thu – TLU President gave a speech

Speaking online at the workshop, Mr. Tanaka Hiroyuki, Director of Construction Department, Nippon Steel Corporation, affirmed: “With the leading knowledge of the TLU and the high level of science and technology of Nippon Steel, infrastructure sector in Vietnam will be developed safely, with high reliability and economic efficiency".
