Protocol "Establishment of a Landslide Monitoring and Prediction System"

Protocol "Establishment of a Landslide Monitoring and Prediction System" - Code: NDT67/e-Asia 19 by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Viet Hung - Head of Geotechnical Department, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Thuyloi University as the Principal Investigator (PI) / Affiliation was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam.

This is a research collaboration between three countries: Japan, Thailand and Vietnam under “e-ASIA Joint Research Program” (e-Asia JRP) in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management. Information about the research team's activities is posted on the website: http://e-asia.ees.st.gunma-u.ac.jp/

The project was adopted to be implemented in August 2019 and led by Gunma University - Japan (Lead PI), Thuyloi University as PI of Vietnamese researchers as well as National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC) as PI of Thailand ones. This cooperative research project will develop a simple method for landslide susceptibility mapping to help reduce landslide disasters.

The project was launched at Kumamoto, Japan in August 2019. On the principle of joint research and technology sharing, in December 2019, the Japanese and Thai research groups conducted landslide field excursion and site during countermeasure work on the Ta Van village, Sa Pa district, Lao Cai province in Vietnam.

Since 2020, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, research exchanges must be done online to maintain work progress. The quarterly meetings, international seminars, professional seminars have been implemented frequently between 3 countries in order to exchange, update and report on the latest research contents of the group.

Up to now, the project has completed the volume according to the approved proposal. The Vietnamese group have achieved 04 international publications, including 03 SCIE articles and 01 Scopus international conference paper. On the other hand, the project has completed the installation of 02 experimental monitoring stations at Tinh Tuc, Nguyen Binh, Cao Bang province and Ban Pho, Muong Hoa, Sa Pa, Lao Cai province to measure rain, horizontal displacement of the sliding block and water pore pressure change in the sliding block to serve the development of landslide prediction model.

In 2022, as planned, the groups will continue to publish international publications and especially expand research cooperation with many countries around the world such as the UK, the US...
