Preliminary round of the Student Research Contest “Climate Change Adaptation”

(TLU) – In the framework of the cooperation between the Netherlands Embassy and Thuyloi University, the student research contest “Climate Change Adaptation” is launched with an aim to enhance knowledge and awareness on climate change and its impacts, as well as to foster climate adaptation initiatives and solutions. This contest is sponsored by the Netherlands Embassy.

Launched from the beginning of 2021, the contest has attracted the participation of 92 students from 07 different national universities and institutes, including: Thuyloi University, Vietnam National University of Forestry, Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment, University of Transport and Communications, Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry and Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

As the host to organize the contest, Thuyloi University had 14 topics from the student groups from the faculties: Water Resources Engineering, Chemistry - Environment, Civil Engineering, Economics and Management, Political Theory. The topics focus mainly on the strong research fields of the university such as: hydrology- water resources, land reclamation, construction design, disaster prevention and mitigation, and environmental treatment. In particular, the impacts of climate change on economic, social and human activities have been clarified, thereby proposing adaptation solutions and damage mitigation.

The preliminary round of the contest took place in an online form

On 11 September, the TLU held an online preliminary round via Zoom Cloud Meetings to select the best TLU ‘s topics to participate in the final round. At the opening ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Canh Thai - Vice President of TLU, Chairman of the preliminary round made compliments and encouraged the spirit of efforts of the student groups participating in the contest despite facing many difficulties due to the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Vice President also expected that the TLU topics would win the high prize in the final round and bring useful solutions on adapting and dealing with current climate change.

After the representatives of each groups presented the topics at the preliminary round, 7/14 topics were selected to enter into the final round. The final round of the contest is expected to be held in mid-October 2021. Depending on the Covid-19 epidemic situation, the contest will be held online or offline at the TLU.
