That was the statement of Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyễn Hoàng Hiệp at the 2020 Annual Science Conference.
Prof. Dr. Trịnh Minh Thụ - President delivered the opening speech
On November 18 Thuyloi University held the 2020 Annual Scientific Conference. The annual scientific conference is the biggest scientific activity of the year of Thuyloi University.
The conference was attended by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyễn Hoàng Hiệp; General Director of General Department of Natural Disaster Prevention Trần Quang Hoài; Director of Vietnam Academy for Water Resources Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Vũ Việt.
On the side of international guest, there was Prof. Alexis Drogoul , Representative of IRD (the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development) in Vietnam.
The conference also welcomed leaders of the authorities, departments, institutes and centers of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD); representatives of Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development, Department of Science and Technology, Management Boards of Investment and Irrigation Construction in localities in the country; representatives of consulting companies under MARD.
Overview of opening ceremony of the 2020 Annual Science Conference
This year’s conference this year received 228 articles. Through a serious and professional review process, there were 179 qualified articles with attractive content providing a lot of important scientific information in the fields of Construction; Water Resources Engineering; Hydrology and Hydraulic; Chemistry and Environment; Information Technology; Electricity and Electronics; Mechanical Engineering; Social Science; Economics and Management; English Language.
Assoc. Dr. Nguyễn Cảnh Thái - Vice President chair the plenary session
There were 3 keynote speakers presenting at the plenary session including: Prof. Alexis Drogoul from IRD in Viet Nam (presentation titled “Modelling for sustainable adaptation planning”), Prof. Dr Nguyễn Quang Kim from TLU (presentation titled “Monitoring surface water resources and warning drought in case of lack of Data”) and Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Văn Khang from TLU (presentation titled “Mechatronics and robotics engineering in the Fourth Industrial Revolution").
These were interdisciplinary studies aiming at introducing and orienting the application of key tools of the fourth industrial revolution such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Simulation, Remote Sensing etc. in the fields of sustainable science in general , disaster management and mitigation, mechatronics and robotics in particular.
Prof. Alexis Drogoul presented at the conference
At the conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyễn Hoàng Hiệp highly appreciated the reports presented today.
According to the Deputy Minister, this year's conference was organized very professionally by TLU, not only gathered scientists from the university but also from other institutions. Through conferences like this, position and research capacity of the university would be increased. More importantly, these studies had effectively contributed to the practice of national development.
The scientific research activities have become a movement of the university and at the same time have made a great contribution to socio-economic development, including the agricultural sector.
Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Quang Kim presented the research "Monitoring surface water resources and warning drought in case of lack of data"
The researchers had chosen the most difficult current issues in the field of sustainable agricultural development for research. For example, the topic “Monitoring surface water resources and warning drought in the condition of lack of data” by Prof.Dr. Nguyễn Quang Kim. Recently, the damage caused by saline drought has been minimized thanks to the accurate forecast of saline drought in the Mekong Delta for period of 2019-2020. It was the result of applying that research.
Deputy Minister Nguyễn Hoàng Hiệp highly appreciated the reports in the conference
Deputy Minister Nguyễn Hoàng Hiệp added that there were currently many solutions for sustainable development of the agricultural sector in the context of climate change. For a long term, the first thing we have to do is to apply science and technology into production. If we want to take a quick shortcut, we must also apply science and technology because science and technology play a decisive role in the sustainable development of the agricultural sector.
