Thuyloi University welcomes and has discussion session with delegation from the Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Center
On March 19, 2025, Thuyloi University welcomed a delegation from the Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Center for a meeting focused on water resources management and exploring future collaboration opportunities.
The meeting was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Canh Thai, Vice President of Thuyloi University, and attended by university leaders and experts from the Lancang-Mekong Center and the Changjiang River Scientific Research Institute.

At the beginning of the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Canh Thai, Vice President of Thuy Loi University, delivered a welcoming speech to the delegation, and presented the importance and urgency of international cooperation in water resources management and response to climate change today.

Mr. Zhou Zhiwei, Secretary-General of the Lancang-Mekong Center, expressed his appreciation for the university’s hospitality. He presented an overview of the center's mission and initiatives, highlighting the importance of the Lancang-Mekong cooperation mechanism in promoting sustainable development in the region. Both parties discussed potential areas for collaboration, such as joint research initiatives and projects aligned with the Lancang-Mekong framework.

A key feature of the meeting was the presentation of recent research by Thuyloi University professors. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Lam introduced his study on real-time salinity forecasting in the Mekong Delta. His research applies predictive modeling techniques to improve water management and support agricultural productivity in the face of saltwater intrusion.

Following this, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hai Trung presented the university's "Living Lab" project, which focuses on monitoring wave dynamics and mangrove forests in the Mekong Delta. The project emphasizes the critical role of mangroves in coastal protection and climate resilience, using real-time data collection to inform sustainable management solutions.

Dr. Jin Zhongwu, representing the Changjiang River Scientific Research Institute, shared insights on water resources management practices in the Changjiang Estuary. His presentation covered erosion control, flow regulation, and strategies to ensure long-term ecological and economic sustainability.

The meeting concluded with a dynamic discussion on possible areas for collaboration. Proposed initiatives included joint research projects, the development of advanced water monitoring systems, and expanding academic exchange programs between institutions.


The session ended with a group photo to commemorate the visit and reaffirm the commitment between Thuyloi University, the Lancang-Mekong Center, and the Changjiang River Scientific Research Institute. All parties expressed their intent to maintain open dialogue and advance collaborative efforts to enhance water resources management and address environmental challenges across the region.
