Thuyloi University welcomes delegation from Saskatchewan, Canada
On the afternoon of March 7, 2025, Thuyloi University welcomed and worked with a delegation from Saskatchewan, Canada, to discuss cooperation opportunities in education and scientific research. Attending the Saskatchewan government delegation were representatives from major universities in the state such as the University of Saskatchewan, University of Regina and Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

Chairing the meeting, Prof. Dr. Trinh Minh Thu, President of Thuyloi University, sent greetings to the delegation and gave a speech introducing the scale of the university, current training and research programs. The President expressed his hope that the university will have many new cooperations in education and training with Canada, including the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the University of Regina during the delegation's visit this time.

Ms. Louise Michaud, Deputy Ministry of Advanced Education, highlighted the importance of strengthening educational ties between the two sides through tailored exchange programs and collaborative development. She introduced Saskatchewan as a global hub for innovation and connectivity, noting the province’s strategic importance in global trade, especially following the CPTPP agreement, which has helped boost Vietnam–Canada economic relations. Saskatchewan, often referred to as Canada’s “breadbasket,” contributes about 50% of the country’s wheat production and plays a leading role in agricultural exports, including to Vietnam.
In the field of education, the province boasts two major universities offering more than 160 academic programs, along with regional colleges and research institutions that are essential in training high-quality human resources — a promising foundation for collaboration with Vietnam.

Vice-Chancellor Haroon Chaudhry, representing the University of Regina, gave a detailed presentation on the university's study and research programs, opening up opportunities to discuss specific cooperation directions between the two sides. Mr. Haroon expressed his desire to cooperate with the University of TLU in training and joint research, and increase student exchanges through programs such as 2+2, 3+1, etc.

At the end of the active discussion, President Trinh Minh Thu and Vice-Chancellor Haroon Chaudhry of the University of Regina represented the signing of a memorandum of understanding and cooperation agreement between the two sides. The agreement marks the first milestone in establishing an educational and research partnership between the two universities, facilitating student and faculty exchange and research cooperation programs. After the meeting, the Saskatchewan Representative Office in Vietnam organized an exchange between Saskatchewan alumni and partners in Vietnam. The parties pledged to continue to maintain and develop training and scientific research cooperation programs, contributing to improving the quality of education and strengthening the friendly relationship between Vietnam and Canada.
