Vietnam, in the form of a stretching S, is located on the Eastern part of Indochina peninsula, bordering China to the North, Laos and Cambodia to the West and facing the eastern Sea and the Pacific to the East and the South with a land border of 4,550 km and a coastal line of 3,260 km. Boasting a long and eventful history which embraces numerous proud achievements of the country, Vietnam now is known as friendly country in Asia to attract increasing number of international tourists with its splendid landscapes and rich culture. Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, is located on the life-giving Red River’s banks of the Northern Delta. As the capital turning 1000 in 2010, Hanoi has within it the finest touch of what a Vietnamese cultural tradition of over a thousand years has to offer. The city hosts more cultural sites than any other city in Vietnam, including over 600 pagodas and temples. Even though some relics have not survived war and time, the city still has many interesting cultural and historic monuments for visitors and residents alike. West Lake, a 500-hectare lake, is a popular leisure area with many temples in the area





Thuy Loi University (TLU), Vietnam is the only university in Vietnam providing high-level education and training in most of majors relating to water resources, natural disaster prevention and mitigation and environment protection. As of 2011, the University has 9 faculties and 4 institutes (namely Institute of Civil Engineering, Institute of Water Resources Engineering, Institute of Hydrology and Climate Change, Institute of Environmental Engineering). Total number of TLU’s staff is 1250 including 400 administrative staffs and 850 academic faculties.

Since 1990s, the University has developed and fostered fruitful cooperation with many universities and training institutions in the world, such as the Netherlands, Denmark, Japan, Italy, German, China, US, Russia, India, Lao PDR, Cambodia, etc. The university also helps train high-quality staff in the fields of water resources, hydropower electricity, environment for several neighbouring countries such as Laos and Cambodia.
