The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITECProgramme was instituted by a decision of the Indian Cabinet on 15 September 1964 as a bilateralprogramme of assistance of the Government of India. The ITEC Programme is essentially bilateral in nature. However, in recent years, ITEC resources have also been used for cooperation programmes conceived in regional and inter-regional context such as Economic Commission for Africa, Industrial Development Unit of Commonwealth Secretariat, UNIDO, Group of 77 and G-15. In more recent years, its activities have also been associated with regional and multilateral organizations and cooperation groupings like Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), Mekong-Ganga Cooperation (MGC), African Union (AU), Afro-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO), Pan African Parliament, Caribbean Community (CARICOM), World Trade Organization (WTO) and Indian Ocean Rim - Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR-ARC) and India-Africa Forum Summit.

The courses under ITEC programme have been divided into seven broad categories for easy identification:

·      Accounts, Audit, Banking and Finance Courses;

·      IT, Telecommunication and English Courses;

·      Management Courses;

·      SME/Rural Development Courses;

·      Specialized Courses;

·      Technical Courses; and

·      Environment and Renewable Energy Courses.

1.   Who can apply:

·      Candidates, who can apply, are employees/officials in Government, Semi-Government, Public Sector, Universities/ Schools, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Private Sector and also members/employees of NGOs and NPOs (for specific courses).

·      Applicants should be between the age group of 25 to 45 years.

·      Applicants who have not attended a Course sponsored by Government of India.

·      Who are medically fit.

2.   How to apply:

 Applicants are required to fill the application forms themselves at the “Apply for ITEC/SCAAP course” link at the new website:

(https://www.itecgoi.in/meaportal/registerApplicant)

They can choose their own login email ID and create their login password, which would be used by the system to keep them posted of the processing status.

·      Missions/Posts will retrieve the application using the unique Application ID of the application and further process and transmit it to the Ministry for further action. 

·      Upon selection, the Embassy/High Commission of India will inform the concerned nodal  Department/Agency who will  in turn inform the applicant.

·      Note:

One set of printed application and notarized photocopies of educational certificates for each candidate need to reach the Embassy of India at least three months before the commencement of the course. Applications for courses commencing from June, July and August must be submitted to the Embassy as soon as possible.

The applicants should consult the Embassy about the status of the courses they would like to apply for before registration.

3.      Facilities provided to the ITEC participants are as follows:

·      Excursion fare/economy class return air ticket

·      Visa on Gratis basis

·      Course Fee

·      Accommodation – Hostel/Hotel

·      Living Allowance @ Rs. 25000/- per month

·      Book Allowance @ Rs. 5000/-

·      Study tours during the course (including places of historical   importance)

The expenditure on the above facilities is met fully by the Ministry of External Affairs under its ITEC Programme.
