TLU signs MOU with Tohoku University, Japan

The delegation from Tohoku University (TU) led by President Hideo Ohno officially visited Thuyloi University (TLU) and welcomed by President Trinh Minh Thu and the heads of departments and faculties. Mr. Hayashi Yusuke - First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, JICA representative in Hanoi, the delegation of Foreign Trade University and nearly 50 alumni of Tohoku University in Vietnam also attended the event.

In 2007, TLU officially started a close cooperation with the Graduate School of Engineering - TU by signing an MOU on scientific research and student exchange.

Since then, every year many students and lecturers of TLU have received scholarships to study and do research at the partner university. The two institutions have jointly implemented many large-scale bilateral and international conferences and seminars as well as joint research projects on hot issues, especially coastal erosion.

Recognizing the effectiveness of cooperation over the past 10 years, TLU and TU have decided to upgrade the scale of cooperation from the faculty level to the university level. According to the signed agreement by President Trinh Minh Thu and President Hideo Ohno, the two universities will develop comprehensive cooperation in training, student and lecturer exchange, academic exchange, joint research and technology transfer.

Mr. Hayashi Yusuke, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan also expressed the joy of witnessing this great event and congratulated the two universities to take their relationship to a new level and bring many benefits for both universities as well as for both countries that have had long-standing and friendly relationships.

Also at this meeting, the Tohoku University Alumni Association in Vietnam was officially established, and Prof. Nguyen Trung Viet, Vice President of TLU was nominated to be the Chairman.

Tohoku University Alumni Seminar in Engineering and Natural Sciences

Another important event also took place after the ceremonies. Prof. Hitoshi Tanaka, currently Vice Chairman of Japan Civil Engineering Association, Tohoku University has been awarded the Certificate of Merit from Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee for his great contributions in protection of the estuarine and coastal areas of Quang Nam province in the context of climate change. He was also conferred the Certificate of Merit and a medal by and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) for his contributions in the development of agriculture and rural areas in Vietnam.

The eventful afternoon affirmed the friendship and affection between the two universities over the years and promised the comprehensive cooperation in the fields of interest for both universities and among Tohoku University Alumni in Vietnam. It also promotes the continuous development of cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in general.
