TLU's researchers honored on Vietnam Science Technology Day 2020

On 18 May 2020, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) celebrated Vietnam Science and Technology Day and presented the Ta Quang Buu Award 2020 to scientists with outstanding achievements in basic research in the areas of natural sciences and engineering. On the event, the MOST also honoured typical organisations and individuals in carrying out research projects serving the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic.

TLU’s researchers of WARM research group were honored on this occasion. They joined the Covid-19 expert group to support the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Disease Prevention right from the first days when the pandemic outbreak. The group includes: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Doanh, team leader, lecturer of Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, Deputy Head of Science and Technology Department, Thuyloi University; MSc. Hoang Van Dong, lecturer of Faculty of Information Technology, Thuyloi University; Dr. Le Chi Ngoc, Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Dr. Huynh Quang Nghi, Can Tho University.     

The WARM research group was established based on the support of the IRD Development Institute - Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), the Republic of France and the cooperation with various research units in Vietnam. WARM members are young Vietnamese researchers. The goal of the group is to apply advanced information technology such as artificial intelligence, data science, modeling and simulation, internet of things to solve practical problems in the field of water resources management and prevention and mitigation of natural disasters in Vietnam.

Right from the first days of the pandemic outbreak, the Ministry of Science and Technology has identified and proposed tasks and solutions to prevent and control epidemics; promptly implement a special process of national science and technology tasks to study epidemiological characteristics, develop a new corona virus detection kit, monoclonal antibody, treatment regimens, robots, and ventilators serve situations to cope with outbreak levels. Up to now, many studies have had positive and timely results to practically serve epidemic prevention. 

According to Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, it is worth mentioning that in times of difficulty, Vietnam has found opportunities and created a driving force for the science and technology sector to be raised up. He expressed his belief that science and technology will contribute to help Vietnam and the whole world in overcoming various challenges including the COVID-19 pandemic.
